PROFESSIONAL BIO
   
After graduating from the University of the South, Sewanee, TN. with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, Catherine immediately left to travel in East Asia for a year, studying first Chinese and then the various beaches in Thailand. After a three year stint working in a think tank in Washington, D.C., she pursued a Ph.D. in political science and a Certificate of East Asian Studies at Columbia University that included a two year stint conducting research in the PRC.  She joined Drew in 1995. Professor Keyser is co-editor with David M. Lampton of China's Global Presence to the Year 2000 (AEI; 1988) editor of China: A Teaching Workbook (Columbia University; 1996), and  Professionalizing Research in Post-Mao China: The System Reform Institute and Policy Making, (ME Sharpe; 2001).  In addition she has published review articles in China Information , and has been guest editor of Chinese Law and Government on several occasions.

OTHER INFO
Professor Keyser's ancestral home is Jacksonville, Florida, but nevertheless, she has adjusted to New Jersey drivers. She has been a foster parent, and is now the adoptive mother of two children, Carlos and Lena-Caroline. She loves to travel, swim, and cook Chinese food.
