UPS Scholarship Awarded to Drew Student Grace Polanski, a senior at Drew University
in Madison, NJ, has been selected to receive a $3,500 scholarship from
United Parcel Service. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Polanski of Wallington, N.J. Polanski, a biochemistry major, is one of more than
665 UPS Scholars at private colleges and universities across the
nation. The scholarships are funded by the UPS Educational Endowment Fund
and administered by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education in
Washington, D.C. FIHE operates the program locally in cooperation with
the Independent College Fund of New Jersey. This year the UPS fund distributed $2.3 million for
its scholarship program, raising the total amount of scholarships awarded
to over $32 million. Evern Cooper, president of the UPS Foundation
said, "the availability of quality, affordable higher education at
schools such as Drew University is critical to establishing a talented
and more diverse workforce." Led by Thomas H. Kean, former two-term governor
of New Jersey, Drew is an independent university of distinction committed
to the liberal arts and to excellence in teaching. Drew student are among
the best in the nation, recently winning a Rhodes Scholarship and the
Jeopardy college championship on ABC television. More than 40 percent
of students graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school classes
and about a third of them in the top five percent. Established in 1953, ICFNJ is an advocate for fourteen independent colleges and universities and helps them secure financial support. ICFNJ has helped raise more than $50 million for its member institutions over the past 50 years.
