Frick Expert to Offer Tips on Viewing Art Ever look at an art masterpiece and wish you
understood what the artist was really saying? A program at Drew on March
19, will help you sharpen your skills of observation and show you
how to see more in a painting. The Caspersen School of Graduate Studies will host a lecture beginning at 7 p.m. in Mead Hall, called "Changing Lenses: A Different Look at the Frick Collection" by Amy Herman, head of educational programs at The Frick Collection in New York. The program is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Call 973/408-3285 to reserve seats. Using portraits from the Frick Collection, Herman will interpret paintings and explain the stories being told in each one. She will point out visual clues often overlooked. Her talk is based on a course she developed in conjunction
with Weill Cornell Medical School two years ago which uses works of art
to enhance the observation skills of physicians and medical students. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Art History at
the City University of New York and holds an M.A. in Art History from
Hunter College as well as a J.D. the National Law Center at George Washington
University. Individuals needing special assistance should
contact Drew at 973/408-3101 at least five working days prior to the event
in order to insure appropriate arrangements. |
