469 STUDENTS RECEIVE DEGREES FROM DREW

MADISON, NJ (May 20, 2000) -- Bill Richardson stressed the importance of the technological revolution to 469 graduates of Drew University today.  He also told them that what is really important is people, particularly the people around them.  More than 4000 people attended the ceremony, which was held indoors for the first time in 16 years.  Richardson recieved the Doctor of Humane Letters.

Drew University awarded 324 Bachelors of Arts degrees to students rom the College of Liberal Arts; 65 degrees to students from the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies; and 80 degrees to students from the Theological School.  Kean congratulated the class of 2000 for their tremendous involvement in the campus community.   Richardson also noted Drew’s “Great tradition of public service.”
 
Drew also awarded Honorary Degrees to Barbara Bell Coleman, of Newark, NJ, an advisor to philanthropic organizations; and Michele K. Guhl (Drew University Class of 1969), Lawrenceville, NJ, who is the Commissioner of the NJ Department of Human Services.

Dr. James O’Kane of Madison, NJ,  received the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, which is given each year to a member of the faculty for his or her contributions to teaching and mentoring.  The honor carries a $10,000 award.
