Writing Center Gains New Head

Photo: Erec Smith Erec Smith joins Drew as director of the Writing Center, which serves all three schools at Drew University. Although he taught English at Temple University in Philadelphia for the past two years, Erec is a native son of the Garden State, having been born and raised in Mt. Holly, N.J.

After completing his undergraduate work with a B.A. from Ursinus College, he went on to acquire his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. In keeping with his commitment to teaching, Erec mentioned that one of the many aspects of Drew he noticed is the intense focus given to the individual student.

"There's a nice ratio between students and faculty here. I pinch myself sometimes because I can't believe how supportive the faculty is. That's the type of vibe I wanted to be in."
