Entering Text

Entering Titles
Creating Bulleted Lists
Creating a Text Box

The text of your presentation is what provides the core of the information you are trying to convey. PowerPoint offers three different types of text objects for you to use in your presentation.

Entering Titles

Titles are like the introductory sentence to a paragraph. They should convey the purpose of the slide in as few words as possible. To enter a title onto a slide
  • You need to have a slide layout with a title selected.
  • To enter the Text, click on the placeholder of the title, a cursor should appear in the placeholder, and you can type as you normally would.

Creating Bulleted Lists

When you have a series of point to make in a presentation, it can be useful to have a bulleted list on your slide. To create a bulleted list:
  • Click in a slide with a text box. Usually second slide in the presentation will have one. Now, you can click on the placeholder for the text box, and start typing.
  • Everytime you hit the <ENTER> key, PowerPoint will create a new bulleted item for your list.
  • If you want a new line without a new bullet, you can hold down the <SHIFT> key and hit <ENTER>. This will create a new line, but not add a new bullet.

Creating a Text Box

There may be times that you want text on a slide, but not as a title, and a list box would be inappropriate. For these cases you can add a text box to your slide.
To add a text box to your slide:

  • First you click on the Insert>Text Box menu option and choose either Horizontal or Vertical.
  • Next you click and drag to create the text box where you want it on the slide.
  • This will create a placeholder for the text box and you can begin to type into it normally.
  • Text boxes can be moved around the slide at any time if you decide it's not where you want it to be. Just click and drag on the box and move it to another place on the slide.
