Areas of specialization: Nineteenth Century British Literature; Creative Writing; Contemporary literary theory; Interdisciplinary Humanities. 

Courses regularly taught:  CLA-English:  English 107: Short Fiction Workshop; English 108: Poetry workshop; English 14: Romantic & Victorian Literature of the Nineteenth Century; English 114: Major Romantic Texts.  CLA-Humanities:  Humanities 16: Islam and the West.  GRAD: English 831S: 19th Century Studies: Romantic Texts; Victorian Prose; English 826S: Literary Criticism.

Teaching awards and honors: Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Will Herberg Distinguished Professor Award, 1992. Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award, 2000: NEH Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Humanities, 1996-2000.

Recent Publications:  have appeared in Princeton Arts Review, Mondo James Dean, and Neologisms; co-author of "Byron, Shelley, and Keats" chapter in the Columbia History of British Poetry. 

In progress: Articles on Mary Shelley; John Edgar Wideman and Russell Banks; short stories;a novel.
