Degrees: B.A. History and Religion, College of Wooster, 1966; M.A. in English, Seton Hall University, 1986;  Ph.D., Drew University, 1994.

Areas of Specialization: All periods of American literature from colonization to the present with special interest in Toni Morrison, African-American women writers, contemporary women writers, spiritual journals and memoirs, and twentieth century poetry.

Eng. 23, Eng. 132.  Past course titles include "The American Dream in 20th Century American Literature,"  "Images of Home and Exile in Contemporary American Women's Fiction,"  "20th Century Inheritors of  Ralph Waldo Emerson."

Points of interest: Contemporary fiction and poetry; writing memoir and poetry; hiking; nature photography; detective fiction, on the beach!

On teaching:   Life is learning; learning, a life-time endeavor. The more I teach, the more I learn what I need to learn--most often from my students. 
On tutoring:  Every great writer had a great Writing Center tutor (or its equivalent, often called an editor!)
