Arrived at Drew: 1962, as an adjunct.

Areas of Specialization: American Literature, Southern Literature, American Romantics, Willa Cather

Courses regularly taught: All surveys of American literature; Seminars on Cather, Faulkner, Emerson, Poe, James, Hawthorne, Southern Women.

Teaching award: Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Will Herberg Distinguished Professor Award, 1984. 

Recent Publications:  Edited Willa Cather's New York:  New Essays on Cather in the City, Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press, 2001, which was declared "a treasure" by CHOICE, with 20 selections "all well written."

Points of interest:  tennis; writing on Cather; going to opera.

On teaching:  I hope to convey my enthusiasm for the assigned work; I'm especially interested in "interleaving" or writers' awareness of each other's works.
