ENGL 4: Writing In and For the Discipline of English
Fall
2005
Fall 2005 saw the introduction of the new English Major and of English
4, a course designed to introduce students to the writing and research
required of English majors. The course is to be taken in the second
year, after ENGL 9: Introduction to Literary Analysis, and any 30-level
courses. It is linked to one of the four modules of ENGL 20-21:
Mapping the Anglo-American Literary Tradition, and students must be
simultaneously enrolled in the concurrent module. Students in the
first module of ENGL 4 and ENGL 21 pioneered changes in both courses
and their work provided valuable assessment for the Department in
addition to being thoughtful and impressive in its own right. Below is
a selection of ePortfolios from section 003 of the course taught by
Sandra Jamieson.
This project was
initiated as part of the English Department's new English Major,
although it is housed in the Composition Program and currently only
includes portfolios produced for writing classes.
