Victor Wegard was assigned to War Crimes Investigating Team No. 6832 in 1945. His mission was to gather evidence of the crimes, collate documents, interview witnesses, and whenever possible to apprehend and consign to Hersbruck Internment Camp for War Criminals any persons accused of committing crimes against inmates of Flossenburg concentration camp.
He was directly responsible for the capture and arrest of Hans Vogel, the commandant of Flossenburg, Col. Joachim Piper, head of the Malmedy massacre, and Col. Andreas Mueller who was charged with the Kowel Massacre.
