Professional Biography: Laureen Chapin joined the Biology staff in spring, 2002 as Operations Manager. In this capacity she takes charge of our stockroom and facilities, as well as serving as manager of our ordering and book-keeping. In Drew’s large, complex program in biological sciences, with subjects ranging from molecules to monkeys and from neurons to ecosystems, being responsible for coordinating the systems that make sure that labs and systems are all ready when needed is no small task.
Laureen graduated from the State University of New York College at Oswego as a Biology major and a Marine Science minor. In addition to several years of managerial and marketing experience, ranging from pet foods to flowers, she has a considerable history of work in both the lab and the field. As a technician with New York Testing Laboratories Inc. and as an environmental control specialist at MaryPaul Laboratories Inc., she has engaged in field sampling, mapping and culturing of fishes, invertebrates, and vegetation, bioassays and toxicity testing of effluents and dredge material, microbiological testing of foods, cosmetics, drinking waters, waste waters(Ames test), air-conditioning systems, sterility testing and bacteria identification. These are all experiences that make her an excellent person to help the Biology Department implement its all-important hands-on experiences in biology represented by lab and field work.
On the personal side, Laureen is originally from Long Island, but has lived in Rockaway, New Jersey for the last 11 years. She is married and has three children(Kelly, Christopher and Shaina)..They keep her very busy, but in her free time she enjoys yoga, hiking, gardening, reading and taking care of the family pets Chloe’(a Labrador Retriever) and Phoebe(a Calico Cat). |
