Drew University is an independent university with a College of Liberal Arts (1,400 students), a Graduate School (300), and a Theological School (350), historically affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1867, Drew has grown to become one of the nation's finest schools and ranks among the top colleges and universities in endowment per student. Located on a 186-acre, beautifully wooded campus in Madison, New Jersey, Drew sits in the historical foothills of Morris County 30 miles west of New York City. Drew is distinguished as being the first liberal arts college to provide computers to every entering freshman. Its campus-wide voice-data network connects every Drew student, faculty member, and staff person via computer to one another, to national and international networks, and to the library's database. The fiber optic network permits transmission of text, graphics, audio and video data and provides full access to the Internet. Drew and RISE are actively involved in several important scientific programs. The annual Novartis/Drew Symposium on Biomedical Research has earned international stature for the outstanding biomedical scientists who present their results during a day-long event held each fall. Drew's Jordy Research Scholar Lecture Series each year brings to campus leading academic scientists whose research is on the cutting edge of their disciplines. Each summer Drew and the Institute sponsor the Residential School on Medicinal Chemistry, which has become a mecca for those wishing to learn the essentials of pharmaceutical research and development. |
